October was one of Mimi's favorite months of the year. She loved Halloween, dress-up, and getting to hug all our neighbors handing out candy! For Mimi, it wasn't about dropping something sweet into her Halloween bucket. Plain old M&M's were the only exception. It was about the most delicious and heartfelt part--hugging a part of her community.
Earlier this month, I had the privilege of attending another lovely book club at the Barrington in Kingwood! Book clubs are my favorite type of events. I bring custom bookmarks as little gifts and share the inside scoop about the quilts associated with the book. There is the handprint quilt from Early Childhood (age 3 to 5 years), the tactile quilt from Early Intervention days (age zero to 3 years), and the collage quilt from the book's cover.
A big shout-out, and a "Mimi hug," goes to Patty for connecting me to her other book club! Although I had a list of discussion questions prepared, I don't think we got to any of them. For me, no question was off-limits. I am an open book! The discussion was lively. Several ladies were happy to have read the smattering of my humor columns from our local newspaper. Yes ... Mimi had many funny moments! I included a handful in the book from the 50 where Mimi was the star!
My goal with every event is to further Mimi's mission of understanding those differently-abled, kindness, respect for life, and the power of a hug. The ladies from the Barrington book club totally got the message!
